In 1920s Berlin, Dietrich performed on the stage and in silent films. Her performance as Lola Lola in Josef von Sternberg’s The Blue Angel (1930) brought her international acclaim and a contract with Paramount Pictures….
…Most of the 1950s to the 1970s she spent touring the world as a marquee live-show performer. Her return to West Germany in 1960 for a concert tour received a controversal reception. After an accident on stage where she broke a thigh bone in September 1975, her career largely ended. Her last 13 years she spent hidden in her Paris appartment.
